Hi Bob,

Wondered if you could put a post in for me on the Guest Book page.

I am trying to make the connections for the guys from the Aircrew Life Support shop at Plattsburgh AFB during the 72-75 time frame. I have so far connected to: Peter Danyliw, Joe Szpila, Jeff Benoit, Tom Pfeil, Joe Goetz, Pat Del Terzo, Bill Rothermel, Tom Batterson, and one guy from the Parachute shop: Joe Catalfamo.  I am waiting for call backs from Jeff Bevilacqua, and Bill Bacelieri.

I am still looking for: Curt Barnes, Allan Pallik, John Price, Robert 'Easy Ed' Edwards, Paul Paree, Mike Nolan, Leslie Bingham, Bob Guerin, Sylvester Clark, Al Abenshine, Ubaldo Anthony Vincerelli, Rudy Valentine, Bradley J. (BJ) Hall, Alex Rhone, and Raphael Sanchez.

If anyone knows how to contact any of these people, please contact me. If you know of any other ALS types that were at Plattsburgh AFB during that time frame, also please contact me.

Thanks,

Dwight Spaulding

Absolutely love the website.  Saw a few familiar names in there!  Can't believe I'm almost at my 20yr mark (18 months to go) and I know how fast time flies (Nathan Figuera - I see you!!!) You were my first boss at RAF Fairford.  I've been reflecting a lot about the course of my life in the Air Force and in Life Support and even more so today than my first year in, I am so glad this was the career field I came into.  I will always believe this is the best job in the Air Force.  Sure would like to hear from folks I've crossed path over the past 18+ years

Hello, I'm Daniel Dorman, I was in the USAF as a Life Support Technician.  Would like to thank you for having this site. I didn't know if it's just for retirees, or for anyone who was a Life Support Tech. If I'm in the wrong, I do apologize. Would like to say hello to all the other L.S. comrades I served with, like ; Sgt. Gonzales (90th TFS Clark, AB) TSgt Robinson (same), Connely (same), Dane Lockhart (5th HBW).

This is my first post. Just found this site about a week ago. Would be glad to hear from anyone I was stationed with in the past. Was at Chanute AFB for school from May 71 to June 71; was stationed at Ubon RTAFB with the 16th SOS (SPECTRE AC-130 Gunships) from July 71 to July 72; then sent to Plattsburgh AFB, NY from July 72 till I got out in Jan 75.

Went back into USAF in Jan 78, but as a Photographer. Was stationed at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, NV till I separated the last time in March 84.

If anyone would like to contact me my email address is ddspaulding@verizon.net. My name is Dwight Spaulding, but a lot of the guys used my middle name David (Dave).

Hope to hear from some people from my past.

Dwight

It was with great sadness that I read of the passing of SMSgt. Lazarus George Ellis.  I first met him in 1977 at Clark AB where he was the NCOIC of the 3rd TFW Life Support Shop.  I later worked for him at Tinker in  AWACS.  He was a strict boss, but he always personified fairness.  He had that booming voice proclaiming the he was the "Old Soldier" and he wasn't going to stand for any foolishness!!  He brought great credit to himself and to the Life Support career field.  He loved to fish, and we had numerous weekend trips early in the mornings to Lake Thunderbird.  Goodspeed to you Sgt. Ellis, and you will be remembered always.

I still would love to hear from anyone that I used to work with, my email address is:  yukonjohn3@yahoo.com

If anyone I worked with is interested in contacting me, please do so! I would love to hear from you and get caught up on the years that I have passed by. I used the GI Bill and got a teaching degree in Dec 98. I have been teaching junior high science now for 8 years and really enjoy it but nothing compares to my military career. I sincerely miss life support, the Air Force, and especially old friends! Hope to hear from someone.

I am currently part of a 3 man Life Support shop for the 48th Rescue Squadron at Davis-Monthan, AFB Tucson, AZ. We are not attached to an aircraft, but to PJ's (Pararescuemen) We are an AFSOC MAJCOM. I enjoy my job with the 48th very much. We go TDY about once a month (mostly as support) We are given lots of opportunities to advance outside of the typical LS career. We are slotted to attend Jump School, Be qualified on our 30' boat, participate in numerous field excercises, participate as survivor and provide Land, Sea and Air support for the PJ's (ParaRescuemen).

I'm retiring from the ACC IG team after 20 years in the LS business. It's been an education for me and I leave those still serving with this -- Our aircrew protection community is an insurance policy, of which our end product hopefully not be used. Doing so means a valuable combat aircraft is lost and precious life is at stake. When they do pull that handle however, we find out if striving for perfection was fruitful. Anytime an aircrew member escapes a deadly situation and returns to his or her family alive, bottle of Beam or not, we've all completed our mission and we've all earned our place. I will say however, that it is an incredibly rewarding feeling when an aircrew member reaches out with the same hand he used to pull that handle to shake yours, and with the other, hands you a bottle of Beam.

I truly enjoy getting the newsletter. It brings back great memories of my 22 years in Life Support. After my retirement in 1979, I spent 20 years working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Chief Joseph Dam in Bridgeport Washington (a hydroelectric dam on the Columbia river) I retired from the USACE in July of 2000. As I'm "long in the tooth" I am also receiving social security. I guess that makes me a member of the "triple dipper" club. I appreciate all the time it takes to keep the newsletter afloat. Please keep up the good work.

Hello to all those life support folks I so dearly remember. Seems like a life time ago (February 1974) that I arrived in Bitburg, Germany. There I worked for Don Wogomon (now deceased) and Max Handly (lost track of him). At the Wing was someone most of you will know quite well...Tommy Thompkins. Wow, it is amazing the stories that are coming back to me...but, I am simply running out of time to right much more. So, long story short, I retired in 1997 from Moody AFB in Valdosta, Georgia. I now live in east Tennessee (close to my childhood home) and work as a law enforcement dispatcher for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Hello to all those I have shared many long hours with.

I was assigned to the Norton AFB Aircrew Life Support Shop from April 81 to January 84. MSGT Candland was my first Superintendant. I also served with SMSGT Springer, MSGT'S Patterson, Straugh, Youngblood, Clark, McCrimmon, and Cochran during my tour of duty. My fellow life support workers were Kidwell, Roberts, Mo, Ranalli, Mass, Ghost, Wade, Coop, Smittee, Tucker, Busby, and many many more.I enjoyed my career at the Norton Life Support Shop. I worked many mid shifts loading those Starlifters and instructing the aircrew members.

I was an instructor at the AF Personal Equipment Technical School at Chanute AFB from April, 1963 until July, 1966. Students who went through the school on "B" shift (1200-1800 MON-FRI)would likely have been in at least one of the classes I taught as I taught all six "blocks" at various times. I would enjoy hearing from anyone who might have been at the school while I was an instructor.

Just got a computer two weeks ago, my daughter is proud that I finally made it to the 21st century. Got a call from L.C. Ford tonight, he turned me on to the website. My wife does most of the computer stuff as I am still in 3 level tng on it and she doesn't really trust me around it. I retired here at Little Rock, AFB in 87 and haven't kept up with anything life support wise since. We have been going over the website for the past 2 hours and still haven't looked at everything yet. I won't go on too long but would like to say hey to a few old friends I haven't seen in a long time. Hi to Dave Candland, John Green, James P. (don't call me Mickey) Rooney, Gary Blanton, Armando Salas, Tony Sison, Mike West. Special hey to the guys that got me going on the right track back in 67, John Weir and Bob Morton. Can't make it to the reunion this year but probably next year.

Even though I separated from active duty, I was in Life Support for a tad bit over 10 years.

Entered the Air Force back in '86 from Honolulu, Hawaii. After completing basic training, I continued on to Tech. school at Chanute AFB, IL. Then the shocker, I was sent to K.I. Sawyer AFB, MI. Talk about cold <BURRRrrr...>. Spent three years there trying to keep warm and working on the KC-135's and B-52's. I received orders to Kadena AB, Okinawa, Japan. Loved it so much that I spent over 7 consecutive years there (until I separated). I was the Life Support trainer for 5 years for the 909th Air Refueling Squadron. I always enjoyed working with Life Support, knowing that if our equipment was to be used, it would save that person's life! It's amazing how I found this website. I had no idea this was here! I still have friends that are active duty and in Life Support and will be sure to pass this link on to them.

To all you Life Supporters (past, present & future) Life Support "Your life is our business"

I can't believe that I don't see not one person I knew from Life Support here. But after they get the word, I'm sure they'll at least visit here. If any of you know me, please drop me a line.

I'm now currently working Civil Service for AFNEWS (Air Force News Agency) in San Antonio, TX. Not sure how long I'll be here, but no matter what, I'll always treasure my time as a Life Supporter!

Take Care and Best of All ! ! !

Although I was only in Life Support for a very short four years, I enjoyed the career field alot. I was at Chanute in 1977 and then went to Kadena AB with the RF4's from March 78-Aug 79. Worked with Reginald "Shep" Shepherd, who nicknamed me "Jake", which stuck the whole time I was there. I then went to Norton AFB and worked for Msgt Dave Candland at the 63rd MAW and met my husband of almost 22 years, Frederick "Robby" Robinson. We worked with alot of great people and I look forward to seeing you at the reunion in June..ya see..we live in Henderson NV and won't miss this one. See you there. Anyone know were "Popcorn" Hebert, John Bach (knew him at McConnell in 1986-1989), "Roundman" Newman (Kadena 1979, or any others not mentioned on the list of retired or active duty?

Former Air Force Life Supporter guy here. I was in the USAF from 1992 til 1998. I spent my whole career @ RAF LAkenheath, England, with F-15 Strike Eagles. I've been fortunate enough to work for Boeing in St.Louis and now with a subsidiary of Boeing in Meridian, MS, contracted w/ the NAvy, maintaining Flight Equipment in a Training Squadron, flying with T-45C's, the Navy's newest trainer. I had the privilege of meeting Chief(R)Rooney in 1996 when he and his team came to Lakenheath to train our squadron for Combat Edge. Boy has that training come in handy dealing with the Navy & Marine pilots floating through here before they go to the Rag and FLeet to fly. Thanks Chief!!! Love the site and hope too see more things added to it like a discussion board and forum. The Navy has a Parachute Rigger(PR) website and it is nicely setup. It is www.prigger.com. Take it easy everyone and drop me a line if ya remember me!

One of the things I do is maintain a complete database of Vietnam Era POW/MIAs derived and updated from the official releases of the Defense Department. This data base often gets updated weeks before the OFFICIAL one.

http://blacksheep.rootsweb.com/pow-mia/ is the link site. To provide the airmen and others with training to come back alive was and is one of the FIRST thoughts of a ALS worker, and the feelings of support for those whose return is long delayed is another facet of what we have all done. I feel the repatriation of remains is one of those "unfinished" tasks.

Please join me in a moment of respect for all those, in all branches who crossed the line, and did not return.

The site is Outstanding. Just got of the phone with my first supervisor at Homestead (Reid Nieman). Had not talked to him in about 10 years or seen him in 25 years. He told me this site was out there. So many memories came back when seeing old friends names and current ones who were airmen and now TSgt's, MSgt's and higher.
