Here are some photos (circa 1972) compliments of Maj (Ret) Meyer Looper, former LSO of the 63 MAWG Aircrew Life Support Norton AFB, CA

In the photo below, the guy with the cigar is MSgt Charlie Haig, NCOIC of the ACLS shop.

The guy with the bicycles is John Eckma.  John was the civilian in Charge of the Life Support Shop prior to Bruno, Francis, Haig and my arriving.  He ran the shop with two civilians and 4 GIs with a 24 hours a day 7 days a week operation for crew members and 40 C141s plus base flight.  Guess who did all the dirty after hours work?

The TSgt (don't remember his name) in the lower right photo taught Aircrew Survival

Don't know who the crew dogs in the photos below were either. We instituted real life use of the equipment for all crew members during their annual Block Training in the base pool.  MAC picked it up for all units after that. We even had a permissive TDY desert survival program for a while.

History of the photos.

When I put the suggestion in to use bicycles instead of vehicles for base chores the DO presented the suggestion award check for $35 to me at the staff meeting with the following words "Congratulations Captain Looper, Judas sold Christ down the drain for 20 pieces of silver, you just sold the wing Commanders staff car down the drain for $35." The bicycles were radio equipped and flight line authorized. My red jeep "Grumble Rumble" was also used on the flight line.  I still have the 'follow me' flag LS had for the Jeep.

I was peddling the bike on a run one day when one of the staff weenies stated “There goes Looper peddling his ass on the base again"….I never heard the end of it.
