Robert E. Gibbs Jr.
Ret. CMSgt Robert E. Gibbs, Jr., 70 of Mountain Home, ID passed
away on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at a Boise, ID hospital. Funeral Services were held
on Friday, July 2, 2010 at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel and buried with
full military honors at the Idaho State Veteran's Cemetery in Boise, ID. "Chief Gibbs" was born June 29, 1939
in Leland, N.C., to Robert and Estell Gibbs. He graduated from Lincoln High
School and with some college courses under his belt enlisted into the US Air
Force in April of 1962 where he served in many capacities; ADC Water Survival
Instructor, Mountain Home AFB Life Support Superintendent, HQ TAC/IG, a USAFE
Unit Life Support Superintendent, 1st AF Life Support Superintendent
and Mountain Home AFB Chief Enlisted Advisor. During "Chief Gibbs"
career he was one of the life supporters that trained Astronaut Neil Armstrong
at the ADC Water Survival School. He also served in Vietnam in 1970-1972. With
so much accomplished, Chief Gibbs retired from US Air Force in April of 1993.
Once Chief Gibbs had proudly served his country he entered into the civilian
world and joined the Security Dept at the Boise Airport. Chief Gibbs loved his
family, fishing, gardening and his YARD. He will be missed by his family and
those who knew him. Robert is survived by his wife M. Ann Gibbs of Mtn Home,
his nephew George Jewett, his grandnieces and grand nephews Kobie Jodyden
Jewett, Dominique Alexis Jewett, Tyler Jordan Jewett, Jasmyn Nicole Jewett,
Kaylie Ann Jewett, Cortney Ann Jewett, his sisters Bernice and her husband Joe
Robinson, Mildred and her husband Eddie Riggins, Joann Smith, Mary and her
husband Lewis Moore, Willie Orlene, Carolyn and her husband Klaus Thonues,
Georgia Mason, his brothers Leon and his wife Alice Gibbs, Alonza and his wife
Ernestine Gibbs, his brother in-law Larry Stockbridge, his sisters in-law Laura
and her husband Joe Hall, Autry Stockbridge and numerous aunts, uncles,
cousins, nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and
two brothers
