McMullen for sending the info below to me. It is an eye opener and drives home a point about our profession.
If you have any Airmen who are finding it difficult to believe the work they do
is important I would recommend you send them these photos. This past weekend
one of our Helo gunners took a bullet to the head and his helmet more than
likely saved his life. If you look at the attached photos you will see from the
first image where the bullet hit the edge of the visor housing and in the
second image where it exited on the other side. Then look at the third image
below and you will notice where the bullet hit the helmet upon entry and prior
to exit. Lastly, look at the last image and you will see the damage to the gray
visor that was up at the time of impact.
We must never allow our folks to forget they hold the lives of their customers
in their hands. Although the helmet they (our folks) are working on may be the
10th one of the day it is the only helmet that crewmember has and could
possibly be the one thing that keeps him/her alive.
